Are you using the inet object? I don't have PB7 so I don't know if it is available in that early version.

I have a need to use a .NET component in my application and that forces me to use a WinForms target. I feel like I have to write one line of code, then deploy and test, then write another line of code, then deploy and test. I agree that the WinFor...

I think you really don't have many choices. Either you make them identify themselves for every order, or you compromize on an agreed-upon timeout, where if the program has been inactive for that long, they have to identify themselves again. The 2...

I have an application that keeps some internal auditing data: what was done, when it was done, and who did it. Unfortunately, my users typically open the app and log in, then leave it open all day. Several users may use the application without sig...

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the welcome! It's great of you to start this initiative, this site will complement the official groups very well. I will help as much as I can.

Would it be alright to cross-blog Kodigo topics here? Or should I limit topics to PB in general?

Cheers

Taking PB Mobile

My product incorporates bar code scanning using a Symbol P370 connected via serial port. Unfortunately, the P370 is a 1-dimensional bar code scanner and many of the products being scanned are coming in with 2-dimensional bar codes. My product also extensively uses the keypad found on the scanner itself.

You can't get a 2-dimensional scanner with a keypad (from Symbol) without getting a mobile computer.

So now I'm evaluating PocketBuilder 2.5 on a Symbol MC70 and development is rather st… Continue

A Call For Content

I once went to a Mensa monthly meeting. It was twenty people standing around not talking to each other. The guest speaker canceled. There was no food. It was a half hour of nothing. As a social gathering, it was a failure.

So what's been happening here lately?

Okay, so maybe I've dramatized a bit. My point, though, is that I am seeking (and trying to foster) an active community. An active community requires activity from the community. I really, REALLY don't want this site to be my port… Continue

Custom Web Links in the PB IDE

The PowerBuilder IDE doesn't have a web browser in it, but it does have a couple of web shortcuts under the "Help" menu item. In researching an issue, I discovered a way to customize these shortcuts and I thought I'd share that with the community.

Going back at least as far as PB 8.0, you'll find "weblink" entries under the [PB] section of your PB.INI file (located in the directory where you installed PowerBuilder... usually "C:\Program Files\Sybase\PowerBuilder 8.0\"). By default, there's thre… Continue

Why We're Here

As a member of TeamSybase, I have been active in the newsgroup community for quite some time. At my last job, however, I had no access to the newsgroups. I became frustrated with needing answers and not being able to find them. I was frustrated in knowing that people needed help-- help that I was capable of giving-- but not being free to provide that help. And I realized that I was not alone.

The Sybase newsgroups host a community, but for a community, th… Continue
