Kodigo v4

After a long hiatus, I have decided to rewrite Kodigo. The goals I've set, IMO, are pretty grand, but I believe is achievable. I've moved the project to it's own domain, http://kodigopower.com (still waiting for kodigo.com/net to expire). Here are some highlights on the new version: -Matthew Green's SBA document is still the basis for the core service architecture. Scope and pooling of services have been changed. -The new version will not be backwards compatible with the old one, mainly because… Continue

A Call For Content

I once went to a Mensa monthly meeting. It was twenty people standing around not talking to each other. The guest speaker canceled. There was no food. It was a half hour of nothing. As a social gathering, it was a failure. So what's been happening here lately? Okay, so maybe I've dramatized a bit. My point, though, is that I am seeking (and trying to foster) an active community. An active community requires activity from the community. I really, REALLY don't want this site to be my port… Continue

Custom Web Links in the PB IDE

The PowerBuilder IDE doesn't have a web browser in it, but it does have a couple of web shortcuts under the "Help" menu item. In researching an issue, I discovered a way to customize these shortcuts and I thought I'd share that with the community. Going back at least as far as PB 8.0, you'll find "weblink" entries under the [PB] section of your PB.INI file (located in the directory where you installed PowerBuilder... usually "C:\Program Files\Sybase\PowerBuilder 8.0\"). By default, there's thre… Continue

Why We're Here

As a member of TeamSybase, I have been active in the newsgroup community for quite some time. At my last job, however, I had no access to the newsgroups. I became frustrated with needing answers and not being able to find them. I was frustrated in knowing that people needed help-- help that I was capable of giving-- but not being free to provide that help. And I realized that I was not alone. The Sybase newsgroups host a community, but for a community, th… Continue

The Sybase newsgroups host a community, but for a community, the NNTP protocol is severely lacking. Posting a question is nothing like reviewing a blog, searching discussions, and learning about the people that sit behind the posts... all in one place.

I know that I'm not the only one that wishes to expand the user-support community. Sybase, itself, is looking at enhancing their community support. This site is simply a "proof-of-concept" or a test-bed for some of the alternatives that Sybase may consider. If I can do this and it gains acceptance, I can present it to Sybase and say, "Here, try something like this." At the same time, however, I hope to provide a richer and more rewarding experience to those that need help with the PowerBuilder coding.
